Eighth Grade:
Looking Beyond and Making a Difference
By the end of the year, our eighth graders have achieved high school levels of scholarship and
have been involved in a number of community service projects that promote involved citizenship.  They
feel confident and competent as they seek acceptance at the various high schools of choice.  Having
experienced a well-rounded educational program, each is prepared to pursue the development of interests
and talents, as well as academic success.

An important aspect of the eighth grade curriculum is the study of United States History.  Each year, the
eighth graders have the opportunity to travel to Washington, DC and New York City to experience history
first hand.  They also travel to the Amish country and to Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.  They participate in
the Conference on Peace and Justice at the University of San Diego, focusing  on topics that impact
children worldwide.

Students hone research skills at the downtown Central Library.  Eighth graders learn about architectural
design and drawing.  The students take part in the Union Tribune's Stock Market Game, learning how the
economy works.  All in all, they have many thought-provoking, real-life experiences designed to prepare
them for future years.  In the end, these students are our emissaries in high schools, the community, and
beyond.  Our long and highly reputable history is closely linked to the successes of our graduates.
