Ximena Escobar, a WWS 2017 Honor Roll graduate, went on to shine at Point Loma High School both in and out of the classroom. Her freshman year, she was able to continue to pursue her love of sailing at PLHS by joining the school’s sailing team. From sophomore through senior years she competed at the varsity level.
Ximena not only devoted her time and passion to her academics and sailing, she was also the co-founder of “Store to Door Groceries” a service that delivered groceries to high-risk senior citizens during the COVID-19 pandemic. Additionally, she noticed that Point Loma High School needed a National Honors Society, and was able to co-found a NHS chapter. The final jewel in her crown of accomplishments? Achieving her place as the Valedictorian of the Point Loma High School Senior Class of 2021.
This fall, Ximena begins her freshman year at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut. Shesays, “Yale wasn’t originally on my list of schools until late junior year, when I realized I could be recruited to one of, if not the best collegiate sailing team in the country”. The Yale Sailing Club was established in 1881 and is the oldest sailing club in the world. Its reputation is stellar, and the Yale Bulldogs are members of the New England Intercollegiate Sailing Association which is also part of the Intercollegiate Sailing Association.
Additionally, Ximena feels fortunate that Yale “is also an amazing school that allows students to take their time to try out different fields of interest before deciding on a major. I am currently leaning toward an Economics/Business route.”
Sail on, Ximena, sail on!
