Students have gone off to camp for generations - a rite of passage. Do you remember your 6th grade camp experience? Over the years the outdoor education programs have evolved to reflect more concern with the environments around us. Warren-Walker Middle School students have wonderful opportunities to explore not only science-based curriculum at camp but also team building/leadership/friendship activities. To keep our programs and values consistent, our teachers go to the camps. It is a unique time being with your classmates in an outdoor education environment, seeing your teachers in a different light. This morning as we put everyone on buses, I reflected on the changes as the years go by. The veteran 8th grade students sleepily climb on the bus, as the parents drive off; the next wave of students, 7th grade, has a few more parents hanging around to see them off; and the nervous excitment of the 6th grade students and parents with much hugging and waving finishes off our morning. Each camp has been selected to address the growth that happens during Middle School. Friday all will come back tired, glad to see parents, and ready to start the new school year in earnest.
