The Best Things...
The printed versions of the San Diego Union and the Wall Street Journal are delivered to our home on a daily basis, each in an unpredictable corner of the front yard (despite our annual holiday tip). Before viewing this as archaic, one is hopeful that the neighbors (and you) think that by continuing this ritual, a sincere effort is being made to stay in touch with both local and national news, at least in terms of what these daily “rags” have to offer.
The lady of the house is an avid reader of both, while I dabble between the two during the course of any given week. Depending on the season, the “Sports Section” (a.k.a. the “Toy Section”) is a regular read. However, there is one section given particular attention by yours truly on Sunday, and that is the comics. Although significantly diminished in size since their heyday, I still find the four pages of content to be, well, provocative.
The reason I even choose to go here in this writing is that one box in a favorite strip stood out recently. The middle frame of Bill Keane’s “Family Circus”, in this particular issue dedicated to “Grandma’s Quotes”, pictured “Grandma” with four grandchildren huddled in her lap. In the bubble above were the words, “Remember…the best things in life are not things”.
I paused…
Pearls of wisdom? Yes, indeed!
