Warren-Walker School has a long legacy of embracing community service as an integral part of our school life and curriculum. Giving back and serving
others has become pervasive in our school culture. Past projects have included Walk for Diabetes, Jump for Heart,
hurricane disaster relief in Haiti, Pennies for Peace, Thanksgiving food drives, walks for cancer research, and of course our ongoing partnership with the San Diego River Project.
In a self-effacing spirit of community service, our students have recently helped in the following ways:
~Ms. Wambaugh's Morning Care Crew (PK- 5th) made
beautiful Halloween cards, complete with glitter! Ms. Wambaugh delivered the cards
with candy to the elderly at Bayside Assisted Living.
~ Mrs. Lattins' 3rd Graders
spearheaded a campus-wide food drive to benefit San Diego Food Bank. Students collected
cans and boxes of food. The food collected will be given to
needy families to help make their holidays brighter!
~ Ms. Glassman's 3rd Graders joined the First United Methodist Church and raised $500 to buy 60 Thanksgiving turkeys for the San Diego Food Ministry. This will go a long way to the church's goal of funding 100 Thanksgiving food baskets helping provide a hearty
Thanksgiving meal to those less fortunate!
~ Ms. Southworth continues in her efforts with Locks off Love by organizing students, teachers and parents who last spring donated more than 100 inches of hair. Locks of Love is an organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children
suffering from long-term medical hair loss from any diagnosis. Ms. Southworth is organizing this year's donors. The first meeting will be held on Wednesday, December
1st at 3:00 in Ms. Southworth's room. The meetings will consist of hair measurements!
